Funmilayo Tejumola

Tejumola Funmilayo is an emerging Visual artist born on February 5 1996, based in Nigeria. She is a full-time studio artist who specialises in figurative African art and has crafted a brand around the pseudonym ‘Demo Ajoke’.

Funmilayo trained at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna state. She obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art before bagging her Master’s in African and Diaspora studies at the University of Lagos. These concentrations have helped direct her focus on African-themed art pieces.

She makes use of acrylic paint on canvas for her paintings. Contrary to the widespread expression of depicting Africans in dark skin tones, she uses bright colours, shapes and the African Adinkra symbols to represent Africa’s rich and diverse cultural heritage. These Paintings are titled in her mother tongue, a candid reflection of her essence and power as an African artist. She has participated in both local and international art exhibitions.
